Kaye Cowher Made And The Love And

Born Kaye Young in Bunn, N.C., she met Bill Cowher at NC State in 1976, where he was a linebacker and she and her twin sister, Faye, played women's basketball. The couple married in 1981.

Cowher was among the pioneers in the early days of Title IX. They played one season with the New York Stars and two with the New Jersey Gems, competing against notable stars Carol Blazejowski and Nancy Lieberman.

When Cowher resigned as coach of the Steelers, he said at his news conference: "To my wife, my soul mate and my friend: the sacrifice that she's made and the love and support that she has given me through the years, she's been my backbone."
